Brand:
Edo Karaki Chopsticks are made from carefully selected precious woods such as ebony, rosewood, and ironwood. These chopsticks allow you to enjoy the warmth and comfort of wood, taking advantage of the wood's natural characteristics.
The term "Karaki" (唐木) refers to wood that came from the Tang dynasty through envoys sent to Tang China, believed to ward off evil spirits.
Edo Karaki Chopsticks, originating from Tokyo, are known for their durability and the warmth of the wood itself. Crafted by Tokyo's wood chopstick artisans and Kiso's lacquer craftsmen, each pair is meticulously hand-finished, pursuing both functionality and beauty. The artisans focus on ease of grip and picking up food, carefully shaping each chopstick from head to tip using a machine called a sander, relying on the sensation in their fingers. The lacquer, applied by craftsmen from Nagano Prefecture's Kiso area, is refined using only sunlight, resulting in a subdued gloss that becomes shinier over time. These chopsticks are a testament to the pursuit of craftsmanship, combining the skills of wood and lacquer artisans to create chopsticks that are not only durable but also convey the warmth of natural wood.
